INTERPRETING YOUR BILL 


As a patient you may find it hard to decipher the various medical bills you receive from the hospital or physicians.  Essentially there are two charges for your anesthesia service: a facility charge, and a professional charge.  The facility charge is from the hospital (or facility) where your procedure occurred to cover the equipment used such as the anesthesia machine and supplies.   The professional charge is for the anesthesia provider's time who cared for you during your procedure.  After your procedure, we will communicate with your insurer who will then send you an explanation of the benefits (EOB) according to your plan for those services.  Please note: This explanation of benefits is not a bill.  The insurance company has not finished processing your claim.  Further adjustments are likely prior to receiving your bill.  About 4 weeks after your procedure, you will receive a bill from MAK Anesthesia.  The bill you receive from MAK will be for the professional services of your anesthesia team only.  The hospital will bill you separately for the equipment used during your procedure.
